Yahoo has acquired 120 organizations. Their most recent acquisition was Altair Semiconductor on January 22, 2016

Yahoo was founded in 1994 by Jerry Yang and David Filo. It is one of the world’s biggest internet companies. Yahoo has a large searchable database and helps users navigate easily in the World Wide Web. It is a free platform and is funded mainly by advertisers. It does not run on the model of subscriptions. The company has 25 international websites in 13 languages, which are viewed 2.4 billion times. Yahoo also has some other internet services too like Yahoo Mail, Yahoo Chat, and Yahoo News. The peripheral shareholders of Yahoo are FMR Corporation, David Filo, Jerry Yang and Terry S. Semel with a share percentage of 12.5, 7.9, 6.7 and 1.2 percent respectively.

Yahoo was started as a hobby by two Stanford students. Jerry used to compile different websites and initiated the idea as “Jerry’s Guide to the World Wide Web”. The commercialization of Yahoo began in the year 1995, when the founders started selling ads. As the website grew, it started acquiring other companies in 1997 and until now, Yahoo has acquired around 114 companies. The headquarters of the company is located in Sunnyvale, California. Currently, Yahoo has 8,500 and has a total revenue of 1.31 Billion per year.

The very first of 114 Yahoo acquisitions was Net Controls. It was a search engine that got acquired for $1.4 million. The latest acquisition by the Yahoo is Polyvore, which is a social commerce website. Yahoo’s largest acquisition so far is Broadcast.com, an internet based radio service. The company acquired it for $5.7 Billion. This made the founder of Broadcast a billionaire.

Most of the Yahoo acquisitions are US based and they are mainly internet services. The largest number of companies acquired by Yahoo was in the year 2013. Here is a list of all the acquisitions by Yahoo.
